THE city government of Marikina will soon require all commercial establishments in the city to install surveillance cameras inside and outside of their buildings as part of an anti-crime campaign. Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro said the city government had installed additional monitoring cameras in all jeepney and tricycle terminals, private subdivisions, and even alleys to deter crimes. He said the city council was set to pass a resolution requiring commercial establishments and private entities to install monitoring cameras. “We have a resolution pending before the city council requiring all commercial establishments and private entities to share their [camera]recordings to the police to aid in their investigation,” Teodoro said in an interview over the weekend. To resolve this, the city government is planning to grant incentives to private entities that will share recordings of their surveillance cameras, Teodoro said.
