BALTIMORE—Before Monday’s game against the Orioles, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons offered — only half-jokingly — that Marco Estrada’s performance would help settle the debate about the six-man rotation and whether extra rest was adversely affecting his team’s starters. The Jays then expanded their lead on the soft side of the Orioles’ bullpen. Back to Estrada; the difference in his performance this season with regard to days off is stark. After Monday, he owns a 1.96 ERA in nine starts on four days rest, compared to a 4.36 mark in 14 starts on five or more days rest. Either way, he and the Jays were just happy to get the win, extending their lead over the third-place Orioles to four games.
