Police have thwarted a march of the humanitarian organisation “Humanity for Rohingya” towards Cox’s Bazar demanding steps to stop the ongoing campaign of onslaught by Myanmar’s government against Rohingyas in the country’s Rakhine state. Later, Convenor of the Humanity for Rohingya Mawlana Shahinur Pasha Choudhury, also a former parliamentarian, announced the end of the march after holding a brief rally at Rashidpur. “They [marchers] started marching with a motorcade consisting of 62 vehicles. Police halted and sent them back, fearing that such a move with this many vehicles towards Cox’s Bazar might destabilise the district,” said Md Jedan Al Musa, additional deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police. However, four trucks, laden with relief materials for the persecuted Rohingyas, were released and allowed to reach the district, he added.
