Maple Leafs welcome back Roman Polak via free agency


On the second day of NHL free agency, the Maple Leafs welcomed Roman Polak back while bidding adieu to popular P.A. There is, of course, nothing to stop the Maple Leafs from trading him again, as the team did two years in a row with Daniel Winnik. Polak, 30, signed a one-year deal with the Leafs in a kind of devil-you-know move reflective of a weak free agent pool for defencemen. Winger Matt Martin, signed Friday, and Polak fit that bill. But they do need to surround their youngsters with positive role models and players with character and leadership abilities.
