It didn’t take long for the Maple Leafs’ twin issues of salary cap management and goaltending question marks to collide. 1 goalie this season, was placed on long-term injured reserve Saturday after tweaking his troublesome groin in the morning skate prior to the team’s game against the Ottawa Senators, the Leafs’ third game of the season. Murray’s groin problems were well known; he missed a great deal of last season with the same problem while with the Senators. Murray has two Stanley Cup rings on his resumé but had two rough years in Ottawa. The extra salary cap space could allow the Leafs to call up players like Wayne Simmonds and Nick Robertson if they want extra players.
