New coach, old coach, this team isn’t going anywhere without exceptional goaltending, never mind below-average stuff. Keefe is playing the Leafs a lot more in line with the way general manager Kyle Dubas is paying them. Under Keefe, Matthews has played slightly more even-strength minutes per game, to be clear, than Edmonton’s Connor McDavid. The likes of Matthews, Tavares and Marner are making a big chunk of the available salary-cap money. Marner is averaging a team-best 1.45 points per game with Keefe as his coach.
