Maoist attacks, rapes go up


Picture by Prashant Mitra Ranchi, May 3: Incidents of Maoist-sponsored violence, rapes and murder have gone up in the state but splinter rebel groups have been tamed somewhat, today's review meeting by state DGP D.K. The meeting in which all senior police personnel took part compared incidents of rebel violence and general crimes from January to April 2017 with the same period in 2016. This year from January to April, there were 60 reported incidents of rebel violence, compared to 80 in the corresponding period in the previous year. Last year, only 22 of the 80 incidents were Maoist related. The CID has been asked to focus more on identifying criminals and giving timely inputs on poppy cultivation rampant this season.
