Manufacturing sector shrinks slightly in September after August rebound

Irish manufacturing activity shrank slightly in September after recovering the previous month, an AIB survey shows. Goods makers saw new orders falling at the fastest pace so far this year, according to AIB’s latest purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for the sector. Survey respondents said they were under pressure to cut their own prices, AIB said. “The AIB Irish Manufacturing PMI survey for September showed a slight deterioration in business conditions in the month. The percentage of manufacturing firms expecting a rise in output levels over the next 12 months (51pc) is more than those forecasting a decline (8pc).
