ANC national chairperson Gwede Mantashe believes political parties who parachuted the DA into governance in the City of Johannesburg did so because of a desire to be closer to "whiteness". "Many of these parties support the DA. I don't know if you know [understand] Sotho? Sehlare sa Motho o montsho ke lekgowa... meaning that your herb (medicine) as a black person is a white man, that is why they supported the DA. It was not the biggest block in any of those metros, but it controlled the governments," he told News24.
