Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday remembered the Emergency imposed on this day in 1975, saying “such a black night” cannot be forgotten, and underlined the need for eternal vigilance to preserve democracy. Recalling imposition of the Emergency on June 25, 1975, the Prime Minister said it was “such a black night which cannot be forgotten by any lover of democracy. The media was completely rendered useless,” the prime minister said. That is our heritage and we have to strengthen that heritage,” Modi said. “No Indian, no patriot can ever forget the 1975 Emergency.
