Manitoba's wage freeze bill struck down by the court

The Manitoba government bill requiring a wage freeze from public-sector workers has been struck down. In a decision released on Thursday, a Manitoba Court of Queen's Bench judge ruled against Bill 28, the controversial legislation that demanded a wage freeze from public-sector employees. The legislation mandated a two-year wage freeze for government employees as each new collective agreement was negotiated. The MFL, along with 28 unions, long argued the legislation interferes with the union's right to collective bargaining. Court of Queen's Bench Justice McKelvey ruled the legislation impeded collective bargaining, a news release from the Manitoba Federation of Labour said.
