Manitoba's queen of country music Lucille Starr died on Friday after a long illness, her family confirms. Starr was the first female Canadian country music singer to sell one million records, the first Canadian woman to be inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame and the first Canadian woman to perform at Nashville's famous Grand Ole Opry. Starr 'paved the way'The country queen was a trailblazer for women in music, according to the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. "A member of both the CCMA Hall of Honour and the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame, Lucille paved the way for female artists in country music," CCMA president Tracy Martin said in an emailed statement. "She was really a major star in country music all around the world," he said on CBC Radio's Weekend Morning Show on Saturday.
