NEW DELHI: The four-day special session of the Delhi assembly concluded on Monday with Aam Aadmi Party MLAs demanding exemplary action, including “jail term“, for officials in charge of drain desilting work and prevention of waterlogging in the city as “they have miserably failed in discharging their duties“. Chief secretary M M Kutty was present in the officers' gallery but principal secretary (PWD) Ashwini Kumar skipped the session.Saying that the state of affairs on ground was “pathetic“, the ruling party demanded that if there are deaths due to diseases and fevers like chikungunya and dengue during monsoon, the officials should be liable for punishment for “criminal negligence“. He also cited how the municipal corporations claimed in a monitoring meeting chaired by LG Anil Baijal that 95% de silting was done while the situation on ground was different.“MCD has not been doing its job for years. That does not mean PWD should follow in its footsteps,“ Jain said. He pointed out that in the middle of the monsoon-related preparations, chief engineers were changed.
