Funeral prices should be mandated online, the Consumer Federation of America and Funeral Consumers Alliance urged today. If the Federal Trade Commission doesn’t impose the requirement, the states should act, contended Funeral Consumers Alliance President Josh Slocum. The two groups’ fourth joint report on the funeral industry in four years praised California for demanding funeral homes put their general price lists online. The same obligation has been in place for funeral homes for on-site and phone contact by grieving family members since 1984. The funeral industry has been in the cross-hairs of the consumer movement for over half of a century.
