Manchester United are finally going to form a professional women’s team, they announced last night. The club have been criticised for falling behind Premier League rivals such as Manchester City and Arsenal, who established women’s teams more than 20 years ago. At present, United have a youth set-up in which girls can play until the age of 17, but there is no senior team into which they can graduate.
