Manchester City and Manchester United have stepped up to donate £100,000 to help Greater Manchester food banks in light of the extraordinary challenges currently being faced. Both clubs regularly help out in the community through their own schemes, through Manchester United Foundation and City in the Community respectively. But with use across 18 Greater Manchester foodbanks having already grown by 23 per cent last year - higher than the national average - the coronavirus pandemic has heightened the situation with concerns that the situation could get even worse. After Liverpool had led the way by offering financial support on Merseyside, MCFC Fans Foodbank Support and MUFC’ Fans Foodbank wrote to the two Manchester clubs in a letter published by the Manchester Evening News on Wednesday calling on City and United to offer aid.
