An increase in away victories meant a sharp rise in the number of goals United conceded; they sieved 28 league goals at Old Trafford in comparison to the 10 they shipped in 2022/23. Last season, United's tally of 57 league goals meant they were they the joint-lowest scorers in the top half of the table alongside Crystal Palace. By contrast, City and Liverpool, who Sir Jim Ratcliffe earlier this year said he wanted to "knock off their perch" within three years, scored 96 and 86 league goals respectively. United were almost faultless at Old Trafford in Ten Hag's first season at the helm, turning it back into the fortress it used to be. Their Old Trafford form needs to be the bedrock of their ambitions to put last season's eighth-placed finish behind them.
