United are intent on sealing the capture of Fernandes in the January transfer window but have so far been unable to agree a deal with the Portuguese club. But Sporting rejected United’s offer as they want a bigger initial fee and also want the bonus structure to be more realistic and reflective of the team’s achievements under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Portugal international has already agreed personal terms with United and is keen to leave before the end of the January transfer window. Fernandes is also said to have been angered by Sporting’s refusal to sell him following United’s initial offer. But Fernandes was unable to end on a high as Sporting were beaten 2-1 by Braga in the League Cup semi-final.
