Manawatu athletes get their Rio Olympic campaigns under wayVASILY FEDOSENKOGOOD SPORTS: Sarah Goss, Hayden Phillips and Nick Wilson were Manawatu's first Olympians in action at the Rio Games. Whiti Te Ra had won the Manawatu competition three years in a row, so they shifted to Wellington this season in search of stronger competition. Women's Black Sticks captain Kayla Whitelock and women's eights rower Kerri Gowler are the next Manawatu athletes in action on Monday and Tuesday respectively. But it doesn't look like much has changed for them as they won all 18 games this year, so maybe the Manawatu competition wasn't so bad after all. Taufui played 24 games for Manawatu picking up four tries.
