Damian Samson lifts a monster dumbbell in preparation for the Manawatu Strongest competition. Some of the region’s most powerful athletes will be competing to see who is the strongest in Manawatū again. The Manawatū Strongest competition, previously the Manawatū strongest man and woman event, is on Saturday, where competitors have to perform amazing feats of strength, lifting and moving weights. Adam Miller, a former Rural Games champion, Damian Samson, last year’s novice champion, and Mel Poa, the first female masters competitor, have also entered. There are categories for open men, open women, novice men, novice woman, under-105kg men, under-90kg men and masters over-40 men and women.
