However, despite this threats, Van Gaal maintained that they can still get into the Champions League. West Ham fans terrified the bus outside Upton Park as it was ambushed with bottles and cans which led to kick-off being delayed after riot police were called in. The bus was attacked and pelted with bottles by groups of West Ham fans, an incident that delayed the match by 45 minutes.
