The 30-year-old grew increasingly attracted to conspiracy theories in early 2020 during a period in which he was suffering with his mental health. "You are made to feel that you have grasped this information that other outside people don't know," Lloyd added. This week he emailed council leader Nick Forbes to apologise to the city for his behaviour not only that day, but in pushing misinformation. A study published in 2020 by the activist group Avaaz backs up his concerns about the power conspiracy theories can have.
