Man surrenders to Toronto police after armed standoff

Toronto police say they negotiated a peaceful surrender with a wanted man following an armed standoff in an apartment building Thursday that lasted almost four hours. Police officers arrived at the building near Black Creek Dr. and Trethewey Dr. in the morning after the man barricaded himself in an apartment. David Hopkinson said the man was armed with a firearm and was wanted on an outstanding warrant. Video posted on social media earlier Thursday showed Toronto police officers armed with rifles set up in a cordoned-off area in the parking lot of the four-storey apartment building. Hopkinson would not confirm what the outstanding warrant was for, or whether the man was a resident of the apartment building where the standoff occurred.
