Fire and Emergency New Zealand personnel are responding to an explosion in Franz Josef. A man has suffered burns after a drum he was welding exploded in Franz Josef, on the West Coast. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said emergency services were alerted to an explosion heard at a house at 12.46pm on Friday. Franz Josef fire chief Mike Charles said a man was flown to hospital with burns to his legs. He said the man had been welding and a drum he was cutting exploded.
