A man was taken to hospital with severe burns after he tried to start a fire with flammable liquid (file photo). A man is in critical condition at Christchurch Hospital after he set himself on fire trying to light wood using flammable liquid. "Instead of using kindling and a firelighter, he decided to use some flammable liquid and squirt that into the fire, which then blew back on him and set him on fire," Hobbs said. Hobbs said the message was simple: "don't try and light a fire with flammable liquid". A St John spokeman said the man was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition.
