Wanoa said the crews reported the man had burns on his arms before he was taken to hospital by St John staff. He was taken to Whanganui Base hospital with moderate injuries, a St John media spokeswoman said. Police blocked the road from Taupō Quay and Carlton Ave while firefighters suppressed the flames, a police media spokeswoman said.
