But during the chase Taurere turned into a dead end road. Approaching the end of the road Taurere spun the vehicle around in a 180 degree manoeuvre speeding towards the police cars attempting to ram them. He then took a one-way exit on Mangatawhiri Road driving in the wrong direction. As he entered State Highway 2, he crossed double yellow lines to get past other motorists. But as police blocked the exit with their vehicles Taurere waited.
