Man killed in paragliding crash named


Police have released the name of the man who died in a paragliding crash near Christchurch Goldola on the Port Hills yesterday. Police said James Peter Maaka (25) of Christchurch, died after crashing into a road barrier on Summit Rd while paragliding. Dan Campbell, president of the NZ Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association's Canterbury club, told the New Zealand Herald yesterday, Mr Maaka was a full club member and the area was a popular spot for paragliders. The police said its thoughts were with Mr Maaka's family and friends.
