One man died and another was seriously injured in an aeroplane crash at Welshman's Creek, northeast of Middlemarch, yesterday. The occupants of the plane, a light sports aircraft, are understood to be from Dunedin and Mosgiel. Mr Cholewa said the privately owned single-engined light plane left Taieri with two people on board. He said the plane was one of several from the Otago Aero Club which were flying to Omarama. Otago Aero Club microlight instructor Colin Chalmers said last night the occupants were local people from Dunedin and Mosgiel, but did not want to comment further.
