A man died after he was swept off Ramsgate pier by a huge wave. Kent police said that three men were pulled from the water amid powerful winds and torrential rain yesterday, but one died at the scene. The Royal National Lifeboat Institution said that the conditions were atrocious, with waves crashing over the harbour wall.
