A Chapainawabganj court has sentenced a man to lifetime imprisonment with hard labour for raping a mentally challenged child in the district’s Bholahat upazila. Additional District and Sessions Judge Md Ziaur Rahman issued the verdict at Chapainawabganj Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Wednesday afternoon. The convict, Golam Kibria, from Borogachi Uttorpara village under Jambaria union in Bholahat, was present at the court when the verdict was delivered. According to the case documents, Kibria raped his neighbour’s mentally challenged daughter on May 28, 2016 after luring her into his bedroom. Based on the evidence and testimonies, the court issued the verdict around 12:30am on Wednesday.
