Then aged 41, he called police anonymously to report his nephew Raju Dhariwal had illegal handguns and drugs in his car. As a judge observed, he was “spicing it up.”But as Dhaliwal tells it, he was legitimately scared. He had been warned Raju was armed and coming for him, and he wanted police to check it out. As it happened, however, Raju’s wife found the guns in the car the day before Dhaliwal called the police. So when Dhaliwal’s tip came in the next day, police played the recording for Raju, who easily recognized his uncle’s voice.
