An Ethiopian man who ran a red light and killed a Melbourne grandmother wants to be spared a long jail sentence so he can keep his Australian visa and avoid deportation. Woldesilassie ran a red light before hitting the two women as they crossed McIntyre Road at Sunshine North on September 18, prosecutor Andrew Grant said. "Both of the women landed 12.6 metres from the point of impact," Mr Grant said. "He told investigators he didn't see the two women crossing the road," Mr Grant said. "The community needs to hear, your honour, that care needs to be taken on the road," Mr Grant said.
