KOTA KINABALU: A swift-flowing river almost cost a man his life when strong currents swept away the car he was driving. Pairo @ Gandili Salagan, 50, had attempted to drive across the river at Kg. Poturidong in Tamparuli near here on Monday evening, but a sudden rush of water swept away his four-wheel drive vehicle. Villagers drove into the river in four-wheel drive vehicles and attached ropes onto the affected car, before pulling it to safety. Poturidong villagers normally drive across the river to reach their homes when the tide is low or when the current isn't strong.
