Man drowns while crabbing at RuakakaWarwick Smith Operations manager for Surf Life Saving Northern Region Adam Wooler says swimming and fishing outside of patrol hours puts people at risk. A man drowned while crab fishing at Ruakaka Beach on Monday. The death has raised further concerns about the number of people putting themselves at risk while fishing or swimming. The Ruakaka Lifeguard Callout Squad was paged and two inflatable rescue boats were launched within 15 minutes. There have been four fatalities related to crab fishing in the Northern Region in the past two years.
