A Brampton man has been charged with first-degree murder after a pedestrian was struck and killed at a small plaza early Sunday morning. Police were called to Torbram Road and Peter Robertson Boulevard at approximately 1:45 a.m. for reports that a pedestrian had been hit. The victim, a 34-year-old male from Caledon, was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Peel police Const. A police news release issued Sunday afternoon said the victim was struck by a pick-up truck that remained at the scene. The afternoon news release said that Avtar Dhammi, 38, of Brampton was arrested on Sunday and charged with first-degree murder.
