A man has been arrested after walking into a garda station overnight and attempting to set a garda on fire. It’s understood the man had entered a local store and purchased a 750ml bottle of a flammable liquid before returning to the garda station. The two gardaí who detained him are probationary gardaí working at Newbridge garda station. A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí have arrested a man following an incident of Criminal Damage and Assault which occurred in Newbridge Garda Station on the 10th May 2021. Sgt Andrew Callinan (36) was burned to death in an arson attack on Tallaght Garda station, Dublin, on July 21, 1999.
