Man arrested after 'joy ride' in police patrol carCHRISTEL YARDLEY/FAIRFAX NZ A 44 year old man from Whangamata allegedly took off in a patrol car. As he was speaking with the driver, the man jumped out of the passenger seat and into the patrol car. Police found the patrol car three hours later about 3am on Sunday dumped in Opoutere, some 15km away. A man has been arrested for taking off in a police patrol car, leaving his partner to face the music, after being pulled over for speeding in the Coromandel at the weekend. Hamilton police Senior Sergeant Pete Simpson said the man had been given police bail to likely appear in Thames court.
