One man who will be hoping to play an integral role at the heart of United's defence is Smalling. Speaking to the club's official website, he sensed a fresh start ahead of his tenth season at Old Trafford and called for the team to start well in August. The 29-year-old made 34 appearances across both domestic and European competitions last season, but was hampered by injury over the Christmas and New Year period. Having spent five months under Solskjaer's guidance, Smalling feels consistency is something which United must establish if they are to become title challengers. With Ole and the coaching staff, we'll have a full pre-season working on a lot of things.
