But with both parties locked in talks this week, a compromise could be reached in coming days, with Mata likely to pen a one-year extension to prolong his spell at United. Talks with United No.1 De Gea – out of contract next summer – have reached an impasse over the 28-year-old Spain international's wage demands. De Gea is said to want in excess of £400,000-a-week to sign a new deal, although United, as with Mata, want to reach a compromise figure that suits both sides.
