Man Utd on brink of agreeing new contract with Juan Mata after lengthy talks

The midfielder, who joined United from Chelsea for £37.5million in 2014, is out of contract in two weeks' time and has yet to agree a new deal. But talks are ongoing between Mata's representatives and United, with those close to the discussions claiming it is “90 per cent” certain an agreement will be reached. But with both parties locked in talks this week, a compromise could be reached in coming days, with Mata likely to pen a one-year extension to prolong his spell at United. Talks with United No.1 De Gea – out of contract next summer – have reached an impasse over the 28-year-old Spain international's wage demands. De Gea is said to want in excess of £400,000-a-week to sign a new deal, although United, as with Mata, want to reach a compromise figure that suits both sides.
