Martinez caught the eyes of Europe’s top clubs this season with five goals in the Champions League group stage. United are one of four clubs leading the chase for Martinez with Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid also interested. Although some of those sides are keen to sign a striker as soon as possible it has emerged that they may be better off waiting until the summer. That is because, according to Italian publication Calcio Mercato, Martinez has a release clause of £94million (€111m) which is activated on 1 July 2020.
