Chris Smalling's impressive loan spell with Roma has done enough to convince Manchester United head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to give him another shot as his Old Trafford career is given a big lifeline. Smalling took a big gamble in going overseas and it paid off as he was handed regular football at Roma. The Serie A side wanted to make the transfer permanent but could not meet United's £20m valuation. Solskjaer is in the market for a new centre-back as he wants to find a long-term partner for Maguire. Most of the Red Devils' summer budget will be tied up in trying to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho, who will cost around £108m.
