Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim and INEOS CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe quickly emerged as the frontrunners but despite submitting very different bids, they have both come in under the Glazers’ asking price of £6billion. However, the Guardian have now reported that Sheikh Jassim has changed his mind and will leave his offer, worth around £5bn, on the table. However, in a surprising development, it is also said that the Glazer’s subsequently contacted him in an attempt to persuade Sheikh Jassim to increase his bid.
