A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a 20-year-old in Sligo town over the weekend. Richard McLoughlin (31), of City Gate Apartments, Connolly Street, Sligo was charged with the murder of Jimmy Loughlin at Connolly Street on February 24th. Keith O’Grady, solicitor for Mr McLoughlin, asked for an urgent psychiatric evaluation to be carried out on his client, who he said was on medication. Judge Kevin Kilrane directed that Mr McLoughlin receive psychiatric treatment while in custody and also granted him legal aid. He remanded the accused in custody to Friday’s district court sitting in Harristown.
