Shafi's brother-in-law Md Mainuddin lodged the case with the court of Chattogram Judicial Magistrate-3 Shuiblu Kumar Dey around 12 noon on Thursday, the plaintiff confirmed reporters. Hefazat chief Shafi died while being treated at a Dhaka hospital on September 18, a day after stepping down as the director general of the Hathazari madrasa in Chittagong. The nonagenarian Islamist leader had long been suffering from various old-age complications, including diabetes and high blood pressure. “We want fair investigation into the killing and demand a judicial probe of it,” he said then.
