Malian militants target peacekeepersFrom RUDD KONTE in Bamako, MaliBAMAKO, (CAJ News) – THE Security Council has denounced attacks onpeacekeepers by militant Islamic groups in Mali. In the latest such onslaught against the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) a Liberian peacekeeper has been killed in the ancient Timbuktu north of the country. The Jama’at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims) has claimed responsibility of the attack that injured several other peacekeepers. The members of the Security Council, the United Nations’ supreme body,called on the Government of Mali to swiftly investigate these attacks and bring the perpetrators to justice. In another incident, unidentified armed men have targeted positions of the Malian Armed Forces and the National Guard east of Timbuktu.
