Mr. Turnbull said he has yet to receive a letter containing a minimum 43 signatures of party lawmakers who believe the vote should be held. Meanwhile, Mr. Turnbull has also requested the country’s solicitor-general investigate whether Mr. Dutton has breached constitutional rules that a lawmaker can’t benefit financially from government subsidies. On Monday, Mr. Turnbull backed away from those efforts to try to save his job. If there is a leadership vote, Mr. Dutton may not be the only candidate. If Mr. Turnbull is ousted, it would be the sixth time Australia has switched prime ministers in about a decade.
