Malaysia's export growth healthy until year-end

Ambank reiterated its 21 per cent full-year export growth despite expecting slower exports to some degree in the fourth quarter due to a high base. It is, however, maintaining its trade surplus forecast at around RM85 billion, slightly lower than the RM87.3 billion surplus in 2016. All these combination of factors will result in equally robust trade prospects next year whereby we expect Malaysia’s export growth to hit 7.9 per cent,” it said. The slower export growth emanated from deceleration in both commodity (both volume and price) and manufacturing sectors. Trade surplus amounted to RM8.6 billion in September, bringing the year-to-date trade surplus to RM69.5 billion.
