Malaysia's January producer prices surge 10.2% on year


KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 28): Malaysia's producer price index (PPI) surged 10.2% year-on-year (y-o-y) in January 2017, mainly on costlier mining besides agriculture, forestry and fishing inputs. In a statement today, the Statistics Department said the mining segment increased 42.8%, while the agriculture, forestry and fishing portion increased 33.4%. On a monthly basis, the PPI climbed 2% from the preceding month, the department said. January 2017 PPI showed a 10.2% y-o-y increase, as compared with December 2016's 6.5% y-o-y growth, according to the department. In November 2016, the index rose 2.2% y-o-y.
