Malaysia's 2022 GDP growth likely to surpass earlier forecast of 6.5% to 7% - Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth for this year is very likely to exceed the earlier projection of between 6.5 per cent and 7.0 per cent, according to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said sentiment remains positive at the end of 2022 with encouraging economic performance following the reopening of the economy amid the transition to the COVID-19 endemic phase. He noted that unemployment rate also dropped to 3.6 per cent in October 2022. He noted that the International Monetary Fund has forecast that global economic growth would slow from 3.2 per cent in 2022 to 2.7 per cent in 2023. The government, Anwar said, will spare no effort to strengthen the economic indicators, restore investor confidence and rebuild the country.
